Then it starts inventing fires just to stay busy. That’s not responsibility anymore, that’s a nervous system doing unpaid overtime. To be clear, this is not about excusing behavior. It’s about putting a ceiling on rumination after repair. We prefer you do not dismantle yourself with moral injury.

You’re Good addresses the tension between accountability and rumination. While guilt can serve as a mechanism for recognizing harm and motivating repair, it can also persist beyond its usefulness, becoming self-punitive rather than constructive.
