Can I help with fewer robocalls?
A proposal on how to present information to the public about carrier performance.
CAN I HELP 005: Can I help with robocalls, spam in general?
We believe government agencies are constantly throwing down design challenges, whether they realize it or not. The FCC’s proposed Robocall Protection Scorecard is one of them: how do you turn complicated telecom data into a simple snapshot of how well a carrier protects its customers from illegal and unwanted calls without blocking legitimate ones? Our concept makes that answer easy to understand and compare. We also believe the scorecard becomes most powerful when the information travels beyond the FCC itself: carriers that perform well will have an incentive to display their scores in promotional and comparison materials, putting the information in front of consumers when they are actually choosing service. Ideally, that visibility creates market pressure of its own, encouraging providers to compete not only on price and coverage, but on who does the best job protecting their customers from spam.
In CAN I HELP 001 FEMA, I wasn’t completely aware of the type of comments that would sit along side my own in the federal record. I have since learned more about the process of public commenting and am changing the format of my discourse to resemble that of a white sheet or green sheet. This is part of an ongoing evolution to make our ideas the right size to fit the door available to us.
